The South African Council for
Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is delighted to have been chosen to
host ICIW in 2009. The CSIR is one of the leading scientific and technology
research, development and implementation organisations in Africa.
Constituted by an Act of Parliament in 1945 as a science council, the CSIR
undertakes directed and multidisciplinary research, technological innovation
as well as industrial and scientific development to improve and secure the
quality of life of the country’s people. The CSIR is committed to
supporting innovation in South
Africa to improve national competitiveness
in the global economy. Science and technology services and solutions are
provided in support of various stakeholders, and opportunities are identified
where new technologies can be further developed and exploited in the private
and public sectors for commercial and social benefit.
We have chosen to hold the conference in Cape Town. Located at the very tip of
Africa, Cape Town
is home to four universities within a 20km radius of one another, and the
City is a gateway to diverse cultural attractions. In addition to a formal
conference programme, pre-conference workshops and cultural programmes will
also be available to enable visitors to benefit from the artistic,
scientific, historical, political and craft richness available in the area.
An added bonus is the proximity to what is arguably one of the finest wine
growing regions in the world
This conference is renowned for bringing together a varied group of people
with different perspectives, experiences and knowledge. Conference aims
include helping practitioners find ways of putting research into practice and
enabling researchers to gain an understanding of real-world problems, needs
and aspirations.
In the spirit of facilitating knowledge transfer and exchange, the organisers
of the conference have agreed to subsidize attendance for non-presenting
students and academics from African educational establishments.
We look forward to providing an exciting,
worthwhile and intellectually stimulating conference for academics,
researchers and practitioners alike at the Breakwater Lodge. Join us in Cape Town for ICIW-2009!
