Peter Arthur

Peter is currently the Director for the Centre for Teaching and Learning at the University of British Columbia Okanagan. He is also a member of the Faculty of Education, where he teaches instructional design at the graduate level and learning technology classes at the undergraduate level. Peter also supervises a number of graduate students in the area of educational technology. He received his doctoral degree in Education from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.

Dr. Philip L. Balcaen
Philip received his doctoral degree in Curriculum Theory from Simon Fraser University and is currently an Assistant Professor at The University of British Columbia. He is also the Senior Science and Mathematics Editor for The Critical Thinking Consortium. Philip’s general research focus is critical thinking in mathematics and science education. His educational technology interests include embedding critical thinking pedagogy within learning object design, supporting critically thoughtful dialogue within courses and video production involving teaching “tools for thought”.

Susan Crichton

Susan is an associate professor at the University of Calgary - Faculty of Education and a fellow of the Centre for Commonwealth Education at Cambridge University.  Her research explores the design and development of ICT enhanced learning environments and the use of digital approaches for qualitative research as well as the use of one-to-one technologies (laptops, iPod Touch, iPAD, and tablet devices) for teachers and students. Internationally, she has worked for the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the Asian Development Bank in western China – providing expertise on ICT enhanced basic education and professional development.  She has been invited to work in Bhutan, Chile, and Tanzania, principally in the area of ICT enhanced teaching and professional development.  She is the founder of jiFUNzeni (http://jifunzeni.com ) - an organization developing ePublishing options for appropriate technologies.

David Kaufman
David has been a faculty member at Concordia, Saint Mary's, Dalhousie and Simon Fraser Universities, in Engineering, Computer Science, and Education.  He also served as Director of Course Design for the BC Open Learning Agency, and was Professor and Director of Medical Education in Dalhousie's Faculty of Medicine. He is the 1998 recipient of Dalhousie University’s Instructional Leadership Award. Dr. Kaufman has presented more than 200 lectures and workshops at universities in North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Middle East and South America.  He has published extensively with approximately 100 published articles and three books to his credit, serves as a reviewer for many journals, granting agencies and professional associations, and has received more than $3 million in funding.  From 2001 to 2008, he served as Director, Learning & Instructional Development Centre at Simon Fraser University and currently is a Professor in the Faculty of Education.

Dr. Lynn Bosetti
Lynn is the Dean of the Faculty of Education at UBC Okanagan and Professor in Educational Policy and Administration.  Formerly a faculty member at University of Calgary, she served in a number of administrative capacities such as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Education, Associate Dean of the Graduate Division of Educational Research, Director of the Centre for Gifted Education, and Special Assistant to the Provost and Vice President (Academic).  She has been a Visiting Scholar at the Centre for the Study of Higher Education at University of Melbourne, as well as at University of Glasgow and Visiting Lecturer at University of Saskatchewan. She is a Visiting Fellow at St. Edmund’s College, University of Cambridge. Her research and teaching has focused on teacher evaluation, planning alternative futures for education, and issues related to school choice, charter schools and university leadership in the new economy.

Dr. Patricia Lasserre
Patricia completed her PhD on Vision for Autonomous Robots in Toulouse (France) in 1996. After immigrating to Canada in 1997, Dr. Lasserre did a post-doc on color constancy at Simon Fraser University, and then worked as a software engineer for a start-up company in Victoria. Dr. P. Lasserre has been involved in the Canadian educational system since 1999. She first worked as College Professor and then Associate Professor at Okanagan University College until her appointment as Associate Professor at UBC Okanagan in July 2005. Her research interests are mainly on the Scholarship of Teaching, specifically on student engagement in the classroom, and on facilitating/enhancing instruction with the use of technology. She is also passionate about interesting young children in sciences. In 2010 she was the co-recipient of the “Teacher of the year” Award at UBC Okanagan for her adaptation of team-based learning for a first term programming class. This award acknowledges a faculty member for their contribution to teaching excellence and innovation during the time of their appointment at UBC Okanagan.

Juliet Stoltenkamp

Juliet is an educator by profession; and brings to the fore extensive experience in eLearning higher education environments. Her current position as an  eLearning Manager at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) involves driving and implementing eLearning in a complex higher education sector. From conceptualisation to realisation, Juliet established a fully fledged eLearning Unit at UWC from the ground –up. Her notable experience as an educator; instructional designer; eLearning Manager; and scholar has seen her invited to various eLearning platforms in Africa and globally to share lessons of experience and extend discourse on eLearning. Julia holds a Masters degree in Education (Med)

Stella Lee
Stella Lee has worked in the field of graphic, web and multi-media design, e-learning and blended learning development, project management and consultation in higher education in Europe, Asia, and N. America for over ten years. Currently Stella is an instructional media analyst for the Education Media Development Unit at Athabasca University in Canada. Prior to that, she worked as an e-learning consultant and project managed the e-learning program for the Criminal Justice Team at the University of Hertfordshire in the UK. A regular speaker at international conferences, Stella has presented her research findings in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, Brazil, China, India, Malaysia and Singapore. Stella’s research interests include mobile learning, adaptable learning objects, user-centered design, information architecture, and e-learning project planning and management. Stella holds a Bachelors degree in Graphic Arts from Slippery Rock University at Pennsylvania and a Masters degree in Communication from Stephen F. Austin University in Texas.

Dr Noeline Wright
Noeline teaches people to be secondary school teachers and researches digital and mobile tools. She has recently published work on using Twitter in education, and an e-learning literature review commissioned by the NZ Ministry of Education. She has also researched the use of mobile devices in secondary school contexts in New Zealand and continues to experiment in this field.

Dick Ng’ambi
Dick is an associate Professor and the leading researcher in mobile learning for developing contexts. He is the Programme Coordinator of a postgraduate programme in Educational Technology at the University of Cape Town. He has published widely on uses of mobile devices as tools to empower learners to become co-producers of knowledge especially in environments of marginalised learners.
