Getting to

For full information on getting to New York by plane, train or taxi visit http://www.nycvisit.com/content/index.cfm?pagePkey=281

Please note that Newark Airport (EWR) in New Jersey is every bit as good an option as JFK for people flying into New York, and particularly for ICEL since everything's on the West Side. Taxi/car service trips from the airport are relatively convenient, and the train from Newark is also convenient--you'll get to Penn Station in 25 minutes.  JFK also has a train option to Penn Station, which is fairly new.

Climate in conference month

The average temperature range in June is 68-85F, 20-29C

Arriving by air?

SuperShuttle can pick you up and bring you to our door (around $20). When arriving, there’s a kiosk near the baggage claim. If you’re flying in to LaGuardia, the public city bus – M60, drops off 3 blocks from us ($1.50 – quarters or Metrocard required). Also, cabs are plentiful at all airports but are a bit more pricey. There’s a $45 flat rate from JFK to anywhere in Manhattan. Information on all local airports can be found at: http://www.panynj.gov/.

Taking the train/bus into Manhattan?

The closest subway to us is the 1 and 9 subway lines (Red). You should get off at the 116thColumbia University stop. It’s about a 5 block walk from there. Metrocard needed which you can purchase via the machines in the station with $1, $5, $10, or $20 bills. The 1/9 line can be picked up from Port Authority Bus Terminal or Penn Station, just follow the signs. Subway and bus maps can be found at: http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/.

Getting from the Lucerne Hotel to Columbia University

The Lucerne's location is pretty good--an easy subway ride, or a short (probably $8 or so) taxi ride.  It's about two miles south of the conference venue. Here's how to get to the Conference venue from the Lucerne: This is a Google Map of the area.

- Go out the hotel door, take a right turn (you'll be on 79th St.)
- Walk one block to Broadway
- Do not cross Broadway, instead go down into the subway station
- Take the 1 train (it's the only option at this station) uptown
- Get off at 116th St. (it's 5 stops away)
- When you get out of the subway station at 116th St., you'll be on Broadway
- Walk 4 blocks up on Broadway to 120th St.
- Turn right onto 120th St.
- The conference is at 525 W. 120th St., halfway down the block or so on your left.

[One note:  for people taking the subway from elsewhere in the city, please note that _only_ the 1 train, and not the 2 or 3 express lines, serve Columbia.]
