Universidade Lusíada de Vila Nova Famalicão is part of Universidades Lusíada, a group of private Universities located in Lisbon, Porto and Famalicão, and owned by Fundação Minerva. Universidades Lusíada were founded in the 1980s by Professor António Martins da Cruz, who is still nowadays the mentor of Universidades Lusíada. In the academic year of 2008-9 Universidades Lusíada had around about 10,000 students, in Lisbon, Porto and Famalicão enrolled in 60 undergraduate, 40 post-graduate and 10 PhD programmes. Located in the hearthland of the Portuguese industrial life, in the district of Braga we are also home to the Observatory of Growth and Sustainability as a part of the Faculty of Economics. Famalicão is a new city, celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2010. Along with nearby Porto and Braga it forms a network of dynamic small cities including Guimaraes, Barcelos, Vila do Conde and Povoa do Varzim. We believe quality is the central characteristic of any successful University. Effective human relations and a spirit of conviviality are essential to the educative process and in the economy. These virtues are enhanced in small schools located in small cities like ours. We have every confidence of providing an exciting, worthwhile and intellectually stimulating conference. September is the perfect time to come and sample Portuguese hospitality, history, culture, food and climate. Boas-vindas aos ECKM 2010 | !
