University information

The Danish School of Education, University of Aarhus, was established on 1 June 2007 by the merger of the Danish University of Education and the University of Aarhus. Most research and study activities at the School of Education are located at the campus in Emdrup in the northern part of the capital of Copenhagen. Other teaching activities take part in Denmark's second largest city Aarhus.

The Danish School of Education is a modern postgraduate university school that conducts research and offers research-based postgraduate programmes within the entire field of education studies. Our aim is to enhance the overall quality of research and training in education, learning and competence development in Denmark and globally.

General information

Though there is evidence that Copenhagen existed as a settlement over 6,000 years ago, its first written record did not come until 1043.

At this time Copenhagen, then called simply Havn (harbour), was of little strategic or political importance but consisted merely of a small group of wattle and daub huts located between the present day Rådhuspladsen (City Hall Square) and the sea. The occupation of the population consisted mainly of fishing the plentiful herring in Øresund, the narrow stretch of water separating Denmark and Sweden.

Gradually, however, the town began to grow in significance because of its en route position between the royal seat in Roskilde (west of Copenhagen) and the religious centre of the Cathedral of Lund in southern Sweden, an area that was also full of trading posts. It should be remembered that at this time southern Sweden was part of the Danish kingdom.

Getting to

By plane
Copenhagen Airport (formerly Kastrup Airport) is less than 5 miles south of the city center. Scheduled flights operated by most major airlines arrive at one of the three terminals from around the world.

Getting to the City from the airport is easy with the metro station located close to terminal 3. TThe Metro operates from five o'clock in the morning until midnight with trains at 4-6 minutes' intervals during the day and evening hours and every 15 minutes during the night. The travel time to Nørreport Station in central Copenhagen is 15 minutes. At Nørreport Station change to the S-train line A bound for Farum. Get off at Emdrup Station. From here, it is a five minute walk to campus.

Tickets for the Metro are available at the Metro station and at the DSB ticket sales counter in Terminal 3. Please note that the ticket machines do not accept notes, only coins and cards such as the Dankort, VISA, etc.

By taxi, campus can be reached in 30-40 minutes. The fare should be about 350 DKK (45 EUR). Taxis can pick up passengers outside all arrivals areas (Terminal 1 and Terminal 3).

By train
The main station, Copenhagen Central Station (Hovedbanegården), is located just across from the world famous Tivoli. There are daily connections from main cities all over Denmark and also from Malmö in Sweden. Recently, a direct connection has started between Switzerland and Copenhagen Central. You can find more information about this on the City Night Line website.

By car
Good directions for reaching Copehagen by car, with route maps and links to ferry companies, can be found on the VisitCopenhagen By Car webpages.

Taxi costs

Expect to pay about 350DKK (€45) from the airport to the city.
